When you develop your opinions on the basis of weak evidence, you will have difficulty interpreting subsequent information that contradicts these opinions, even if this new information is obviously more accurate.

If there is something in nature you don't understand, odds are it makes sense in a deeper way that is beyond your understanding. So there is a logic to natural things that is much superior to our own. Just as there is a dichotomy in law: 'innocent until proven guilty' as opposed to 'guilty until proven innocent', let me express my rule as follows: what Mother Nature does is rigorous until proven otherwise; what humans and science do is flawed until proven otherwise.

A global LGBTQ+ asylum charity has recorded a huge rise in LGBTQ+ people from Uganda asking for help in fleeing the country.

Rainbow Railroad says the rise is “directly related” to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, which doubles down on the criminalisation of same-sex activity while introducing a new crime of “aggravated homosexuality”. Defined as sex with a minor, having sex while HIV positive or incest, it carries a death sentence.

The bill originally made it illegal to simply identify as LGBTQ+, but this clause was removed as parliament reconsidered the bill this week.

Rainbow Railroad has received more than 468 requests for help from LGBTQ+ Ugandans in 2023 so far. That represents a “sharp increase from previous years”, the organisation told PinkNews.

Speaking to PinkNews, Kimahli Powell, executive director of Rainbow Railroad, said: “There were already disturbing signs that Uganda was targeting the LGBTQI+ community before the bill was introduced, including the shutdown of civil society organisations like Sexual Minorities Uganda – but the spike is directly related to the bill’s passage.”

Notably, 56 per cent of those seeking assistance are trans or non-binary.

This points to a “larger backlash and targeting of trans persons” by the “anti-gender movement”, Powell says.

“We’re deeply concerned around the vulnerability of trans people who will be severely persecuted if and when this bill is signed into law,” he added.

Swift action is necessary, Powell says. He is urging governments around the world to do what they can to provide support to LGBTQ+ Ugandans who are forced to flee. - PinkNews

I’m a Berlin born, Brussels raised, gender fluid, queer photographer that currently resides and creates in New York City. So far, my path in photography has taken me through play, trauma, uprooting, coming out, identification and spirituality and has taught me precious lessons about visual representation of marginalized groups, gender expression and the fragility of social constructs.

Through my work, I look for an intricate connection with each of my subjects. I explore social and personal topics such as sexuality, tokenism and identity with the aims to guide my audience’s perspective and awaken awareness within their personal perception. Through this, I hope to not only evoke the observation of a subject but the deeply personal involvement of the observer.

With my work I fill the gap of visual representation of the diversity within our society. It gives individuals and marginalized social groups non-tokenistic and ethical material for self-recognition and true equality. - @sophiekietzmann

Lord, thou knowest better than myself that I am growing older and will soon be old. Keep me from becoming too talkative, and especially from the unfortunate habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and at every opportunity.

Release me from the idea that I must straighten out other peoples' affairs. With my immense treasure of experience and wisdom, it seems a pity not to let everybody partake of it. But thou knowest, Lord, that in the end I will need a few friends.

Keep me from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point.

Grant me the patience to listen to the complaints of others; help me to endure them with charity. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains -- they increase with the increasing years and my inclination to recount them is also increasing.

I will not ask thee for improved memory, only for a little more humility and less self-assurance when my own memory doesn't agree with that of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be wrong.

Keep me reasonably gentle. I do not have the ambition to become a saint -- it is so hard to live with some of them -- but a harsh old person is one of the devil's masterpieces.

Make me sympathetic without being sentimental, helpful but not bossy. Let me discover merits where I had not expected them, and talents in people whom I had not thought to possess any. And, Lord, give me the grace to tell them so.
