Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will visit Salvador, Bahia as Cultural Ambassadors and Global Changemakers to take part in 
Liberatum Brazil 2023

Two of the most eminent North American creative visionaries, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will visit Salvador, Bahia to participate in Liberatum Brazil this November. Davis and Tennon will attend as Cultural Ambassadors and Global Changemakers for this momentous occasion dedicated to Black Cultural Excellence, Equality and Diversity. Davis and Tennon founded their production company, JuVee Productions, with the aim of creating opportunities for underrepresented communities in filmmaking. With an emphasis on producing narratives from a diverse range of emerging and established voices alike, JuVee Productions aims to become the go-to creative hub where the next generation of filmmakers and artists have the space to craft dynamic stories spanning the broad spectrum of humanity.

Liberatum, the global multidisciplinary cultural diplomacy foundation will host a historic and landmark cultural festival ‘Liberatum Brazil’ with a special spotlight on the cultural contribution of global Black Changemakers and Visionaries. The celebrations will be held in Salvador, the capital of Bahia state in the Northeast of Brazil, from 3rd – 5th November 2023. Salvador is the cultural heart of Brazil.

Bahia is Brazil’s most African state, with more than three quarters of its 15 million inhabitants tracing their roots back to Africa. Salvador, its capital city, has the largest population of African-descent in the world outside of the African continent. Over 80% of the population of Salvador is from an African background. Liberatum Brazil will be an extraordinary cultural moment. An ambitious and deeply inspiring multidisciplinary program to champion equality, inclusion and diversity, and a significant event with a special focus on Black Cultural Excellence to provide a vital source of inspiration to audiences in Brazil. The Liberatum Brazil festival is officially supported by The City of Salvador and The State of Bahia.

About Viola Davis:

Viola Davis is a critically revered artist, activist, producer, philanthropist, and New York Times best-selling author. Davis has earned EGOT status through her Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and multi-Tony Award wins. She was honored in 2017 by Time 100 as one of the world’s most influential people and, in 2022, was honored with the Public Counsel’s William O Douglas Award for her commitment to social justice causes. In 2012, Davis and her husband Julius Tennon founded their production company, JuVee Productions, with its focus on giving a voice to the voiceless through strong, impactful narratives.

About Julius Tennon:

Julius Tennon is an accomplished film, television, and theatre actor and producer.  Tennon is the Co-President of Juvee Productions, which he founded with his wife Viola Davis. JuVee creates scripted and non-scripted television, film, documentary, theater, and digital immersive content for global audiences and remains at the forefront of innovation, while developing and producing a library of socially relevant entertainment, defined by inclusion. A native of Austin, Texas, he began as both a thespian and a star linebacker. He was offered a full football scholarship to the University of Tulsa, where he became the very first African-American to graduate from the theatre department. Julius and Viola have shared stage, screen, and producing credits in such notable projects as Air, Intimate Apparel at the Mark Taper Forum, CBS’ Laws of Chance, The Architect, and the JuVee produced films The Woman King, Custody, and Lila & Eve.

Viola Davis e Julius Tennon unem forças no Liberatum Brasil em novembro deste ano em Salvador, Bahia como Embaixadores Culturais e Agentes de Mudança Global

Dois dos mais eminentes visionários criativos norte-americanos, Viola Davis e Julius Tennon participarão do Liberatum Brasil em Salvador, Bahia no mês de novembro. 

Liberatum, a fundação global multidisciplinar de diplomacia cultural, sediará um festival cultural histórico e marcante, o ‘Liberatum Brasil’, com destaque especial para a contribuição cultural dos agentes de mudança e Visionários Negros globais. As celebrações multidimensionais serão realizadas em Salvador, capital do estado da Bahia, no Nordeste do Brasil, de 3 a 5 de novembro de 2023. Salvador é o coração cultural do Brasil.

A Bahia é o estado mais africano do Brasil, com mais de três quartos dos seus 15 milhões de habitantes tendo raízes na África. Salvador, sua capital, tem a maior população afrodescendente do mundo fora do continente africano. Mais de 80% da população de Salvador é de origem africana. O Liberatum Brasil será um momento cultural extraordinário.
