Liberatum Brazil Guest of Honour Announcement – Morgan Freeman

One of the greatest cultural figures of our time, Morgan Freeman will visit Salvador, Bahia during Liberatum in Brazil this November. Freeman will attend as the country’s Guest of Honour and a special Cultural Ambassador for this momentous occasion. Freeman, an Academy Award winner in 2004 for “Million Dollar Baby” will be honoured by Liberatum and Brazil for his exceptional contribution to the world cultural landscape and his lifetime achievement in the cinematic arts, both as an actor, producer and director. 

Liberatum, the global multidisciplinary cultural diplomacy foundation and The Republic of Brazil will host a historic and landmark cultural festival ‘Liberatum Brazil’ with a special spotlight on the cultural contribution of global Black Changemakers and Visionaries. The celebrations will be held in Salvador, the capital of Bahia state in the Northeast of Brazil, from 3rd – 5th November 2023. Salvador is the cultural heart of Brazil.

Bahia is Brazil’s most African state, with more than three quarters of its 15 million inhabitants tracing their roots back to Africa. Salvador, its capital city, has the largest population of African-descent in the world outside of the African continent. Over 80% of the population of Salvador is from an African background. Liberatum Brazil will be an extraordinary cultural moment. An ambitious and deeply inspiring multidisciplinary program to champion equality and diversity, and a historic event with a special focus on Black Changemakers and Black Visionaries to provide a vital source of inspiration to audiences in Brazil.

Liberatum and The Republic of Brazil will present a special programme of events to celebrate Morgan Freeman’s achievements and contributions to world culture including a retrospective of Freeman’s cinematic body of work in the historic centre of Salvador. Musicians from Freeman’s blues club, Ground Zero Blues Club, will collaborate with some of the most renowned musicians in Bahia such as the incomparable Lazzo Matumbi. Ground Zero Blues Club located in Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA, was founded in 2001 and is considered the top blues club offering authentic Mississippi Delta Blues music to listeners from around the world. The Liberatum Brazil festival is officially supported by The City of Salvador and The State of Bahia.

The mission of Liberatum is to present worldwide audiences with remarkable artistic programmes of the highest calibre featuring world-renowned cultural icons as participants to promote social change, freedom of expression and raise consciousness about important issues affecting humanity. Freeman comparecerá como Convidado de Honra do país e Embaixador Cultural especial para esta ocasião importante. Freeman, vencedor do Oscar em 2004 por “Million Dollar Baby”, será homenageado pela Liberatum e pelo Brasil por sua excepcional contribuição ao cenário cultural mundial e por sua conquista nas artes cinematográficas como ator, produtor e diretor.
Liberatum, a fundação global de diplomacia cultural multidisciplinar sediará um festival cultural histórico e marcante, o ‘Liberatum Brasil’, que este ano tem um foco especial na contribuição cultural de agentes de mudança e visionários negros de todo o mundo. As celebrações serão realizadas em Salvador, capital do estado da Bahia, no Nordeste do Brasil, de 3 a 5 de novembro de 2023. 

A Bahia é o estado mais negro do Brasil, com mais de três quartos de seus mais de 14 milhões de habitantes tendo suas raízes na África. Salvador, sua capital, tem a maior população afrodescendente do mundo fora do continente africano. Liberatum apresentará uma programação especial de eventos para celebrar as conquistas e contribuições de Morgan Freeman para a cultura mundial, incluindo uma retrospectiva da obra cinematográfica de Freeman no centro histórico de Salvador. Músicos do clube de blues de Freeman, Ground Zero Blues Club, irão colaborar com alguns dos mais renomados músicos da Bahia, como o incrível Lazzo Matumbi.
